So, I sang at the Dana Street Coffee Roasting Co. in Mountain View this evening. I was completely surrounded by family, friends, knitting friends, choral project friends, Ragtime friends, CSL friends...it was a great evening. I felt good and had a wonderful, wonderful surprise. My college vocal teacher/choir director and his wife walked into the gig. In the middle of a song, I stumbled on words, had to gather my wits about me, and started to verklempt. What the hell is he doing here from Humboldt?? Come to find out, their daughter, who I also know, who is newly married and newly babied, lives in Sunnyvale, and they have been trying to catch me when they visit her. And lo and behold. There he is. Friend/knitter Kevin, also, a Humboldtian, was there as well, and we had a wonderful time talking, and catching up, and I was very happy to see him again. He stayed for almost the whole set. I was very happy. He was very proud. That was very cool.
The Dana Street Roasting Co. storefront is all windows. So when I sing up front, I can see people passing by too. Sometimes people I don't know stop and listen, sometimes I see people I know approaching and wave. Well, this evening, I saw Cookie A. walking down the street. In the middle of my song, I blurted out, "Look, it's Cookie A!!"
It was actually part being star struck, (even though I've never personally knitted her socks, I do have plans to make several pair of them) and part "Come on in, you've got some friends in here". Apparently she didn't see Sandi, Nathania, Jasmin or the other assorted knitters who were at the gig. She heard her name, looked at me like I was a whack job, and continued on her way. I totally would've done the same thing if I heard my name over a P.A. in a place I'm just passing. So, Cookie, I'm sorry I startled you.
Still an awesome night.
Thanks to all you knitters who showed up.
Love you all!!
